Congrats to Emily. She just returned from a 10-day trip to San Francisco where she competed in the country's highest level of competition for sailboat racing in her age group. She placed 5th in Silver Fleet, which puts her among the top 75 sailors in the country, and top 20 females.
Emily is on the Marshwood/Traip Sailing team (part of Rob Scully's ELO partnership with Piscataqua Youth Sailing Association).
Here is news video coverage to give a little more insight into the intensity and prestige of the event.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 12, 2024 - Hobey Baker High School Character Award winners announced for the state of Maine Boy’s and Girl’s ice hockey programs.
(Camden, Maine) The Maine Director of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award announced 43 state-wide winners in high school ice hockey today.
Each year, a senior hockey player from participating Maine high schools is selected by their coach for outstanding individual performance on and off the ice. The award honors high school hockey players who exemplify the Hobey Baker ideal that "Character Builds Excellence." The Hobey Baker committee believes that character makes the game better and makes our players better. Candidates for the award are selected by their coaches based on coach-ability, strength of character, integrity, commitment, teamwork, community leadership, and outstanding sportsmanship.
“I am proud to announce the 43 Maine recipients of this year’s award” said Vin Contento, Maine Director of the Hobey Baker High School Character Award. “Established in 2003, the Hobey Baker High School Character Award recognizes character, commitment, and love of the game.” Hobey Baker not only excelled in hockey, but in football as well at the collegiate level. He had a tradition of making his way to his opponent’s locker room to shake their hands after each contest. He despised dirty play and was penalized only twice in his college career. “While Hobey Baker was a legendary athlete, he was also a true gentleman. It’s important to recognize the same values and traits in these high school athletes and not just their on-ice abilities”, Contento said. This is the 12th year Maine high school hockey has participated in the award program.
Among the winners announced today were 14 girls and 29 boys from participating high school varsity teams across the state. Winners receive a personalized commemorative plaque – and a distinction shared by some of the top players to ever hit the ice: Hobey Baker winner.

Shout out to Hadley, Maddie and Sarah for girls lax https://www.seacoastonline.com/story/sports/high-school/2024/04/08/28-seacoast-nh-me-high-school-girls-lacrosse-players-to-watch-2024/73015847007/

April 7
District Update
I hope this email finds you well. It has certainly been a long four days for many members of our community. I am emailing this afternoon to provide a quick update on the status of the District going into next week.
Power Status
I am happy to share that all MSAD 35 buildings currently have power. In addition, internet services have been restored as of yesterday morning. We are ready for students first thing Monday morning.
Reminder - Tomorrow’s Schedule
Please remember that tomorrow's schedule may be slightly different in our schools tomorrow as a result of the solar eclipse. Our elementary schools sent home notifications to families with the options for tomorrow afternoon. If you haven’t already done so, please fill out the permission forms for your student(s) indicating your plan for tomorrow afternoon.
Afternoon buses at MHS and MMS will run on a normal schedule and the Elementary School buses will run later than normal. In addition, there will be a late bus for Marshwood High School and Marshwood Middle School students tomorrow, but not for Marshwood Great Works School’s students.
Monday Bus Routes
We have confirmed with both the Eliot and South Berwick Departments of Public works and there are no road closures at this time. Therefore, all AM bus routes will run on a normal schedule.
This Evening use of Marshwood High School
MSAD 35 is working closely with York County Emergency Management Services. You may see a large number of power restoration vehicles at Marshwood High School later this evening. We have been asked to open our facility in the event that power restoration crews need bathroom, showering and recharging facilities. MSAD 35 is happy to help in any way to facilitate and support the return of power to the State of Maine. This will not impact this afternoon's performance of Mamma Mia or school at Marshwood High School in the morning. Use of the facility may change in the event that York County Emergency Management does not require the facility.
I am hopeful we can now fully dive into springtime weather.
Respectfully,
John Caverly
Superintendent of Schools
MSAD 35
