Conjunctivitis

Brief Information about Conjunctivitis (pink eye)

  Symptoms of Conjunctivitis may include:

  • Teary, reddened, swollen eye

  • Yellow to clear discharge

  • Eyelids may stick together in the morning

  • Occasional complains that the eye burns or itches

Conjunctivitis can be bacterial, viral, or allergic. Bacterial and viral conjunctivitis are highly contagious. Should these symptoms occur please check with your physician regarding the need for treatment. If your child is diagnosed with bacterial conjunctivitis s/he can return to school after being on medical treatment (usually eye drops) for 24 hr. If s/he is diagnosed with viral conjunctivitis the symptoms need to be resolved before returning to school. Notify the School Nurse  of this diagnosis. Thank you.

Please remind your child to wash their hands frequently and to keep their fingers and hands away from their eyes.
