Marshwood girls soccer won 3-2 last night with two goals from Lucy Parker and one from Maddy Poitras.

The Hawks lost in three straight sets at York Thursday night. It was scrappy from the start for both teams. Marshwood suffered an injury earlier to their starting lineup but fought on. Our girls stayed hungry, matching York on opportunities. In the end York put balls away on offense and Marshwood did not. We are still pleased and proud of our girls for keeping their heads high til the last point. Nellie Young led in blocks with 7. Sivan Semo led in kills with 3. Brynn Folger led with 11 assists. Kylie Folger led in digs with 10.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been a great start to this school year. I love the energy students have brought in this year. It has also been an incredible two weeks of great weather!
SAC Pass Update:
There have been some questions from the community regarding our SAC pass system, and I wanted to take the opportunity to clarify for families. First, it is important to understand that a SAC pass is a privilege earned by a student for exhibiting positive student behaviors, rather than an expectation that can be taken away. Students who have earned SAC passes have increased flexibilities within the building.
The criteria to earn a SAC pass are:
Pass all classes with a 75 or better
Earn positive work habits grades in all classes
Miss no more than 5 days of school in a given quarter
Come to school and class on time- no more than 5 tardies per quarter in any given class.
No suspensions from school
This system was changed last year and like anything new sometimes change is hard. The system incentivizes students to engage in productive student behaviors and since instituting it we have seen a positive impact on our school. Last year we saw significant gains in attendance going from 24% chronic absenteeism in 2023 to 15% in 2024. We also increased our graduation rate last year. The Department of Education and “Count ME in” have complimented our district for the improvements made in student attendance and our progress toward the State goal of 10% or less of students being chronically absent. When students are in school, they are more likely to be successful and feel connected.
All students have the chance, each quarter, to earn a SAC pass. If students do not qualify for a SAC pass, we have an appeal process in place. Absences due to serious illness or hospitalization (with a Dr. Note), or bereavement will not count against a student’s quarterly total.
Excellence in learning and high standards for academics and behavior are core values for the Marshwood community. We believe that having students here everyday engaged in positive academic work will improve their success and overall high school experience.
We appreciate your support and partnership.
Host Families for visiting students.
We are still looking for host families for our students visiting from Denmark. Here is a link with more information on that.

Marshwood takes down Portland in 3 straight sets!
Hawks Volleyball played a little tight at the start of set one down by 5 points mid set. What makes this team so special is the fight they have for each other and courage to stand tall in moments of adversity. There is a hunger and desire in these girls to improve and move forward and not look back. Captain Sivan Semo led that charge. Nellie Young had 5 big blocks and just as many kills. Riley Phipps led in team aces with 3. Libero Captain Kylie Folger led with 15 digs. Brynn Folger set the pace of the offense beautifully with 17 assists! It was a balanced team effort to start the season 2-0.
