On February 16, three Marshwood Middle School students were honored with a dinner by the local VFW Post 5744 for placing in the annual Patriot's Pen contest. This year's essay question of "How Can I Be A Good American?" guided the students in writing their essays. Christopher Neathawk, a seventh grader in Mrs. Katelyn Williams's ELA class, won first place at the local level and placed second for VFW District 11. Grant Palardy and Nora Widerstrom, both sixth grade students in Mrs. Tamarah Schoff's ELA class, won second and third place respectively at the local level. Also, at this dinner, Tracy LaPointe, Gifted Specialist teacher at Marshwood Middle School, was recognized with a community service award of appreciation for her involvement in having students participate in the Patriot's Pen contest for the past twelve years. Congratulations, Christopher, Grant, Nora, and Mrs. LaPointe!
