Where did you grow up and attend school?
I grew up in South Berwick and attended Marshwood!
Where did you attend college?
I completed my undergraduate degree in music education at DePaul University in Chicago and my master’s degree in instrumental conducting at UNH.
Why did you want to become a teacher?
I had the privilege of having incredible music teachers at Marshwood. They taught me the value of the arts in our lives and I could not pass up the opportunity to share musical experiences with students.
Was there a particular person in your life that impacted your career choice or was your role model?
Several people, actually! Former band director Dave Miller, current high school band director David Graichen, and current great works school music teacher Janice Marro. I would not be where I am today without their guidance and support.
Why do you like teaching or working with kids?
There is something really special about being involved with a person’s relationship with music. I never get tired of the excitement our younger musicians have when playing their instruments for the first time, or the feeling of a successful performance. I love creating meaningful, musical moments and being part of each student’s journey as a musician. Band students are also some of the coolest kids I have ever met!
What ARE some things you enjoy when not in school?
Traveling, training for long-distance running and triathlons, listening to books, teaching bassoon lessons, crafting with friends.
What are other hobbies or interests?
I am taking Spanish lessons and training for my first marathon.
Family life?
We have two dogs, Bailey and Leia, and a cat named Oscar. I am getting married in May!
