Great News from Marshwood Middle School
Tami Schoff, Lynn Walker, and Kristy Corriveau
At the culmination of a verse novel and poetry unit, students' learning was celebrated. Over the course of the past month students were asked to try a new format of reading; a verse novel. Students were also on a mission to find different figurative language devices authors may have used in the stories' creations. We read Hate That Cat by Sharon Creech as a class and used that as an introduction to verse and figurative language.
At the celebration students entered into Starbooks Cafe and shared their verse novel choice, created poems using figurative language devices, and created Blackout poems. They were served hot chocolate and popcorn to celebrate their hard work and knowledge gleaned. It was amazing to see students' excitement as they shared their knowledge.
