On November 8th the MHS Civil Rights Team participated in the sixth annual Day of Welcome. It was an opportunity to celebrate a school community where we all belong! Our civil rights team and civil rights teams all across Maine celebrated and promoted the idea that our school communities are for everyone. More than 500 welcoming events have been held by civil rights teams in Maine schools since the launch of the annual Day of Welcome campaign in 2019. This event is sponsored by the Maine Office of the Attorney General through the Civil Rights Team Project, who support us in our work of engaging the school community in thinking and talking about issues related to race and skin color, national origin and ancestry, religion, disability, gender (including identity and expression), and sexual orientation. The Civil Rights Team Project and civil rights teams are supported in this work by state law and our school policies. The MHS Civil Rights Team meets Tuesdays after school. Everyone is welcome to attend these meetings whenever they have the time available to do so. Please reach out to the advisors, Ms. England and Ms. Brandon for more information.
