Two 4th grade classes recently adopted two newborn calves, named Ida and Kendra, through the Discover Dairy Adopt-A-Cow program. This program allows classrooms to receive photos and updates of calves and track their progress. Not only is this a fun experience for the classroom, but it also ties into the 4th-grade Northeast Region studies.
Ms. DeMace and Mrs. Moore thought it would make the experience even better if the two classes could go visit their calves at Brigeen Farms in Turner, Maine! The two classes loaded up a bus and drive north to go meet Ida, Kendra, and the owners of Brigeen Farms.
Upon arrival, students learned about farm equipment, how many cows are on the farm, and how much milk they produce. They also learned that the milk from the cows on Brigeen Farms goes to Oakhurst Dairy, which is the milk that we have here at GWS! Then they got to meet their calves and learn about them, which was the highlight of the trip! Students even got treated to ice cream that is made on the farm with milk from the cows.
It was a visit that we will never forget!
